Pray over the ingredients before and during mixing. Pray over the cookies as you put them on the cookie sheets. Ask God to use your cookies as a source of His love to shine on the prisoners and staff on the Kairos weekend. Pray that each cookie brings the resident, correction officer, or warden who eats it closer to God. We want every person to become part of the family of God.

BAKING INSTRUCTIONS

The types of cookies that are acceptable are oatmeal, peanut butter, molasses, chocolate chip, ginger, and sugar. There are no requirements that batter be made from scratch. Pre-packaged cookie mixes work fine.

Cookies should be between 2 inches and 2 1/2 inches in diameter and not more than 1/2 inch thick. This is important due to the packing that is done for distribution to the residents. Large-diameter cookies cannot be packed for distribution.

It is very important not to use icing, sugar, or any other type of coating on the outside of the cookie. Do not add any kind of fruit or nuts to the cookies. No raisins are allowed. These are not to be “fancy” or “large-gourmet” style cookies.

Make sure cookies are cooled completely before packing. If they are not properly cooled they will stick together and will become unusable and will break apart. Do not pack or stack cookies until they are cooled individually.

PACKING INSTRUCTIONS

Once the cookies are cooled, the preferred packing method is to place the cookies by rows in ZipLock gallon-sized freezer bags.
- Place a row of cookies across the bottom of the bag, then pack another row on top of the bottom row, and continue until the bag is full. Do not over-pack the bag.
- Zip it closed.
- Label each bag with the cookie type inside.
If the size of the cookie is as instructed, 2 to 2 2 1/2 inches in diameter and no more than 1/2 inch thick, about 60 cookies will fill the bag.
Freeze the cookies if not using within three days.
